Pre-Kindergarten
Pre-Kindergarten
First Baptist Academy’s PK program is a Christ-centered academic program focused on preparing students for Kindergarten. Our curriculum, OWL by Pearson, prepares children to succeed with ongoing assessment of research-based success predictors and playful, purposeful, and personalized instruction. OWL is based upon the belief that immersion in a learning-rich, PK environment is critical but not sufficient. The environment and interactions must be thoughtful and purposeful.
Our PK program is organized around three learning experiences- whole group time, circle time, and small group lessons – that provide an anchor for conversation, play, and education. These experiences provide integrated learning opportunities and introduce children to new vocabulary, concepts, and skills. Our PK program provides intentional instruction in all learning domains including social-emotional development, oral language development, emergent reading and writing, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, physical development, and technology.
Daily small group instruction provides multiple opportunities for children to be actively involved in learning, developing skills with teacher modeling, guidance, immediate feedback, and support. Small group lessons focus on the most predictive skills: literacy, phonological awareness, rhyming, syllables, compound words, beginning and ending sounds, alphabet, number recognition, addition/subtraction, patterns, and science.
