Q&A with Multi-Sport Standout Gabby

dallas high school basketball

Why are you a Saint?

“Growing up in a Christian home, my parents have always valued Christian education. My parents wanted me to be raised in a Christian environment and when they heard about FBA, they knew this was where I was supposed to be.”

What do you like most about FBA?

“One of the many reasons I love FBA is because of the family atmosphere. No matter what a person is going through, they can always count on someone to come along side them and encourage them.”

What obstacles have you overcome in your athletic career, and how did you overcome them?

“Being one of the shortest people on the court/field has been a struggle throughout my athletic career. Constantly being defended and having to defend someone who is taller and bigger than me pushes me to be a better player by allowing me to overcome the physical barrier and gain mental toughness.”

What have you learned about yourself during your athletic career?

“I have learned that I am very competitive. Although being competitive is a good thing, it is also a bad thing, because in the end, it’s only a game.”

What are some life-lessons you’ve learned during your time that can be applied in your day-to-day life?

“When the game is over and all is said and done, God is the only one who deserves all the glory.”

Who has impacted your athletic career the most?

“Coach Kay. She has put up with my stubbornness and my crazy moods. She always encourages me even though she will never be impressed. She pushes me to be not only a better player but a better leader and Christ-follower. Her encouragement drives me to be a better person physically, spiritually, and emotionally.”

What is your greatest athletic memory at FBA?

“My greatest athletic memory at FBA is making it to the 2nd round of playoffs in basketball my junior year because we made FBA history.”

What words of advice do you have for future Saints athletes?

“Win or lose, always give the glory to God. Giving up doesn’t only hurt yourself but also your entire team. Never, never, never give up.”
